How to crop, trim, compress or upscale an upload?

When an upload is too long, too large or too small for the feature you're using, Arcads opens an editor so you can trim, crop, compress or upscale it.

Written by Nilo

Every feature has limits on the files it accepts. When you upload a video that is too long or a file that is too large, Arcads opens an editor right away so you can trim, crop or compress it instead of starting over. If an image is too small, you can upscale it from the same window. You can also open the editor yourself to crop or trim any upload.

Who can use it

All plans. Cropping, trimming and compressing are free. Upscaling a too-small image follows image upscale pricing.

Where to find it

  • Automatically: when you add a file that doesn't fit a feature's limits in Studio or in Mark

  • Manually: hover an uploaded file and click the crop icon ("Crop image" or "Crop or trim video") in the Studio composer, in Mark's attachments or in a Workflow input node

How to use it

  1. Upload your file. If it doesn't fit, a window explains why, for example "This video is too long for…" or "This image is too large for…".

  2. To trim, drag the handles on the timeline. The window shows the maximum length the feature accepts.

  3. To crop, drag the frame on the preview or pick a ratio: Free, Original, 9:16, 4:5, 1:1 or 16:9.

  4. Check the output size and file size shown under the preview. Click Reset to start over.

  5. Click Apply. If the file is still too large after your edits, it is compressed automatically. If you only need it smaller, click Compress.

  6. If an image is too small, click Upscale. Arcads enlarges it just enough to fit.

Options

  • Trim (videos): keep any part of at least 1 second

  • Crop (images and videos): free crop or 9:16, 4:5, 1:1, 16:9 or the original ratio

  • Compress (images and videos): reduces the file size to fit the feature's limit

  • Upscale (images): enlarges an image that is under the minimum size

Credits

  • Crop, trim and compress: free

  • Upscale a too-small image: 80 credits, free on Pro plans and above. The button shows the price.

Where it works

  • Studio: uploads in tools, presets and video references (trim, crop, compress, and upscale where a minimum image size applies)

  • Mark: attachments and library uploads

  • Workflows: crop or trim an image or video in an input node

Limitations

  • Compression works on files up to 500 MB. Trim or crop larger files below 500 MB first.

  • The automatic upscale offer currently appears for images used in Replace Actor and Animate Actor, which need at least 300 pixels on each side.

  • An image too small to reach the minimum even at 4x can't be fixed this way.

  • Audio files and documents can't be edited here.
